Identification of Rhizospheric Microorganisms That Manages Root Knot Nematode and Improve Oil Yield in Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.)

چکیده

Sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum), a highly valuable medicinal crop, is extremely susceptible to Meloidogyne incognita infestation, leading severe losses in yield and chemo-pharmaceutical quality. Currently, chemical nematicides are the only effective option for disease management. However, high toxicity non-target organisms adverse impact on soil health motivated look ecofriendly alternatives. Here, bioinoculants (Bacillus megatarium (“BM”), B. subtilis (“BS”)) were isolated from rhizosphere of various aromatic plants growing Lucknow region, India. Their biocontrol effects studied O. basilicum that invaded by M. either single or consortium with Trichoderma harzianum (“TH”) their efficiency compared nematicide (carbofuran) microbial reference strain (Pseudomonas fluorescens). The results show all enhanced growth oil production increased nutrient content significantly reducing infestation 46 72%. Among strains, BM TH was most potent treatment. these not restricted sterile condition but remained also natural conditions, indicating enriching soils rhizospheric microbes can be an alternative nematicides.

Chicoric acid found in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves

This is the first report to identify the presence of chicoric acid (cichoric acid; also known as dicaffeoyltartaric acid, which is a caffeic acid derivatizedwith tartaric acid) in basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid, chicoric acid and caftaric acid (in the order of most abundant to least; all derivatives of caffeic acid) were identified in fresh basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid was themain phenolic comp...

Salinity Stress Does Not Affect Root Uptake, Dissemination and Persistence of Salmonella in Sweet-basil (Ocimum basilicum)

Crop produce can be contaminated in the field during cultivation by bacterial human pathogens originating from contaminated soil or irrigation water. The bacterial pathogens interact with the plant, can penetrate the plant via the root system and translocate and survive in above-ground tissues. The present study is first to investigate effects of an abiotic stress, salinity, on the interaction ...

Light Quality Dependent Changes in Morphology, Antioxidant Capacity, and Volatile Production in Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum)

Narrow-bandwidth light treatments may be used to manipulate plant growth, development and metabolism. In this report LED-based light treatments were used to affect yield and metabolic content of sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L. cv "Ceasar") grown in controlled environments. This culinary herb produces an aroma highly appreciated by consumers, primarily composed of terpenes/terpenoids, phenylpro...
